How Roulette Bets Work

All roulette bets have the house edge except one, yet there are a lot of different choices when betting.

The Outside Bets

Red or Black
Pays off: 1 to 1
A bet that the ball will land in red or black pocket: numbers don’t matter. The 0 and the 00 are green.

Odd or Even
Pays off: 1 to 1
A bet that the ball will land in an even number or an odd number pocket: Colors don’t matter The 0 and the 00 are not considered odd or even.

High or Low
Pays off: 1 to 1
Bet high and you hope the ball will land on a number from 17-36. and you hope the ball will land on a number from 1-18.

Dozens
Pays off: 2 to 1
You can bet on 1-12, 13-24, or 25-36.


The Inside Bets

Single Number
Pays off: 35 to 1
A bet on a single number.

Split
Pays off: 17 to 1
You can bet on two numbers, called a Split, by placing your chips on the line between two numbers.

Street
Pays off: 11 to 1
Place this bet by putting your chips on the line at the left of a row of three numbers, thus betting that any of the three will hit.

Corner
Pays off: 8 to 1
Place this bet by putting your chips at the intersection of 4 numbers you want to bet on, called betting the Corner.

5 Number Bet
Pays off: 6 to 1
This is a bet on the 0, 00, 1, 2, and 3. This is the only bet with a house edge of 7.89%, compared to 5.26%, and is only possible in American Roulette.

Double Street
Pays off: 5 to 1
A bet placed on 6 numbers. To place this bet put your chips at the intersection of the two lines at the end of 2 rows of 3 numbers.
