Foxwoods Casino Deal to include Horseracing

A new marketing deal brings Foxwoods Connecticut punters in reach of Aqueduct New York horse races.

The New York Racing Association tracks were the focus of gamblers at the Connecticut at Foxwoods Resort Casino on Friday as they placed wagers on the opening-day card at the Aqueduct.

Prior to Friday if Connecticut residents wanted to go to the races it meant visiting the Mohegan Sun Casino, approximately 10 miles away from Foxwoods. The Mohegan Sun had the exclusive rights to the New York Racing Association’s signal, but as the NYRA is working out a new deal with Mohegan Sun that honor now goes to Foxwoods. Even if the Mohegan Sun and the NYRA work out a deal, it appears it won’t be an exclusive one.NYRA’s president and CEO, Charles Hayward said “Foxwoods had never before had our signal. We weren’t going to give Mohegan Sun an exclusive anymore.”

Thanks to the new deal  Foxwoods will now be the official sponsor of three races: the Just a Game at Belmont in the spring, the King’s Bishop at Saratoga, and the Gallant Bloom at Belmont in the fall.
