Casino Head Says Little Has Changed

Crunch Casino Staff - 17 Nov 2010

The head of the American Gaming Association said little has changed in the last year thanks to the rescission.

Frank Fahrenkopf heads the casino industry's top trade group and spoke Tuesday at the Global Gaming Expo in Las Vegas.

He said that consumer spending is still down because of the recession and that third-quarter gambling revenue in commercial U.S. casinos rose just 1.3 percent, to just over $8 billion.

While that is an increase of about $100 million more than casinos took during the 2009 third quarter Fahrenkopf points out that revenues are almost flat and have been that way all year.

Those companies that have managed to diversify with a strong position in Asia have done  better than others, especially with property in the Chinese enclave of Macau, considered by many to be the world's top gambling market.
