Anti-Smoking Casino Lawsuit Heats Up in Las Vegas

Crunch Casino Staff - 11 Nov 2010

Las Vegas has a casino-online exemption to the public ban on smoking, but dealers are hoping to clear the air with a lawsuit.

When the state of Nevada went smoke-free in public places the casino industry managed to carve out an exception for their casinos, a move that pleased many customers -- as was the intent -- but alienated many dealers and other casino workers.

With Wynn casino dealers and croupiers forced to deal with second-hand smoke without even the ability to wave or blow the smoke away from their faces many have come together to file a $5 million federal class action lawsuit against the Wynn Las Vegas.

The plaintiff are not seeking a complete ban on smoking, but they do want some relief, mostly in the form ofhigh-technology air cleansing devises.

Kanie Kastroll is the lead plantiff and a dealer of 20 years, summed up the dealer complaint: “We get every kind of direct cigarette smoke, sometimes intentionally blown on us because they are losing. You’re not allowed to fan, you can’t blow it back on them. Forget the employee — it’s all about their bottom line.”
