Baccarat House Edge

In the game of Baccarat the edge lies with the banker, which represents the house.

That is typical of casino games in general, which always support the house. One way to take advantage of this in Baccarat, however, is to bet on the banker to win any particular round, which is allowed.

The house edges are typically 14.36 percent for a tie versus 1.24 percent for the player versus 1.06 percent for the banker, which puts the banker in the leading place for wins. The banker wins three to four times more often than the player, and both the player and the banker win significantly more often than the result of a tie.

During the play of the game a player can bet against themselves; in fact, any one who wishes to place a wager can do so, on any of the three options, regardless if they are holding cards. The banker position, by the way, is not always filled by someone who works for the casino. Often the banker role is another casino patron, with the role of banker rotating through the players at the table.

While that player will have an advantage of winning, it simply doesn’t matter, as at any point any player can bet on the banker to win. A bet for the banker, however, is “taxed”, typically five percent, by the house.
